Commonly asked Questions from Customers:

Question: What colors do the E17 base Heavy Duty stringers come in?

Answer:  We carry these stringers in black, white, and brown

Question: What is the max wattage of the E17 base HD Stringers?

Answer:  840 max watts for the 25 foot strings

1250 max watts for the 100 and 330 foot strings

Question: What lengths and spacing are available in the E17 base HD Stringers?

Answer:  The lengths we offer are as follows

  • 25ft stringer has 12” spacing

  • 100ft stringer has 15’ spacing

  • 330ft stringer has 15” spacing

Question: What size fuse does the E17 base HD stringers require if I need to replace it?

Answer:  The 25 foot stringers have a 7 amp fuse. Our 100ft and 330 ft strings do not come with a fused plug.  Max amps for the 100 and 330 foot strings is 10Amps.

Question: What wattage bulb can I use in the E17 base HD stringers?

Answer: With these stringers it is important to not exceed 25 watts per socket. You do not want to exceed 840 watts (7amps) total on the 25 foot strings, do not exceed 1250 watts (10Amps) for the 100 and 330 foot strings.

Question: How many can I connect together?

Answer: For our different lengths it varies: But ultimately it depends on the wattage of each bulb. For example using 7 watt bulbs you can string 4 sets together, this will not exceed the 840 watts or 7Amps. 7watts x 100 (25 sockets per string) = 700 total watts.

  • 25ft you can connect up to 4 sets using a 7 watt bulb

  • 100 ft is non-connectable

  • 330ft is meant to be cut and customized so that it does not exceed the 1250 max watts.

Question: How do I figure out the watts for an indoor and an outdoor socket?

Answer:  A typical household circuit can include several plug outlets, internal lighting fixtures or built-in appliances all on the same circuit. This means that whenever you plug your Christmas lights into the wall they are sharing that circuit's capacity with anything else that may also be drawing power. If very few things are on the circuit you have more wattage capacity. However, if your circuit already has a number of items drawing power from it, you may begin ""tripping your breakers"" in the fuse box. This happens when your wattage exceeds the amp capacity of the circuit.

Most household circuits are 15 or 20 amps

It is recommended that all circuits never exceed 80% of their max wattage capacity

15 amp circuits support 1,800 watts (80% capacity is 1,440 max watts)

20 amp circuits support 2,400 watts (80% capacity is 1,920 max watts)

Question: Can I use bulbs I already have in my new stringer?

Answer: You can use existing bulbs you already have; you will need to confirm the base sizes are the same and that the individual bulb does not exceed 25 watts. These sockets have a 25 watt max. We also recommend that you either have all LED bulbs on the strand or all incandescent. If you combine incandescent with LED you lessen the life of the LED bulb because you are feeding it with more energy than it needs. An incandescent bulb needs 7 watts of power to work the LED needs less than a watt to shine.

Question: What is the base size of these sockets?

Answer:  The sockets are an E17, click the following products below for options:

Question: What is the lead and tail length?

Answer: The 25 foot stringers have 6” lead and tail length. The 100 and 330 foot strings have a 6 foot lead and no tail.

Question: What is the wire type/gauge?

Answer:  Our HD stringers are SPT-2, and are 16 gauge wire.

Question: What are the sockets made out of?

Answer:  The outer sockets are flexible PVC, which forms a tight water resistant seal.

Question: Can I cut off the fuse plug?

Answer: This is not something we recommend purely for safety reasons, it will void the warranty of the stringer. If you have a hired electrician and they have the proper plugs for the wire then yes they can alter the string.

Question:  Can I plug these into a standard 120V outlet.

Answer:  Our HD strings can be plugged into a 120V.

Question:  Where is the fuse located?

Answer: The 25ft strands come equipped with a 7amp fuse. The working fuse is located in a compartment on the male end of the string. An extra fuse is included taped to the string when you first receive after purchase. The 100 foot string and 330 foot string do not come equipped with a fused plug.

Question:  Do you have replacement fuses?

Answer:  If you do need a spare fuse, please contact our customer service team at 1-800-209-6122 for help.

Question: What socket options are there?

Answer:  We have inline socket options or suspended.

Question: What can be used to hang these stringers?

Answer:  You can use guide wire, or in some cases zip ties. It's ok to get creative with how to hang the lights, be aware though that using anything that could puncture the wire could result in the stringer no longer working.

Question: What is wrong if the bulbs do not light up once they are screwed into the socket?

Answer:  These particular sockets are meant to create that airtight seal between the bulb and the socket to prevent water from getting in. We suggest wearing a glove and really screwing the bulb in tight so that it makes a connection with the bottom of the socket. If you are still not making the connection, please unplug from power, you can lift the little metal piece in the socket a bit so that it can make the connection.

Question:  Do I have to fill each socket in order for it to work?

Answer:  For safety reasons you should have each socket filled, it is a live circuit when plugged in. The lights will work without all sockets filled but we do not recommend you leave it open.
